Tauberbach + My Bed & Its influence on my ideas

For my show I want to reflect the chaotic, stressful and messy feel of a festival. My projection and soundscape do that well so if I am going to bring set and performers onto the stage I don’t want it to be random, I would want it to aid and enforce this.

When thinking about mess there were a few different things that came to mind.

1. My Bed - Tracey Emin
2. Tauberbach - les ballets C de la B

Both, through mess are able to really create a sense of time and place, mayhem and disorganisation.

Specifically with Tracey Emins My Bed, she was able to so clearly tell a story through objects and litter. I love how the bed stays how it is and Is just an artefact of a specific time and through just a still life you understand so much about her and the context of the piece and what it means.

- This really inspired me for live performance part of my show:

having my performers arrive at their campsite to then only trash it whilst trying to look for their phone, before exiting and heading into the festival, leaving the mess behind.

this then foreshadows later in the performance when you hear several voicemails of people lost and trying to find their friends.

I decided that this mess would then be left on stage untouched until the very end of the performance to symbolise the chaos of the feeling of being at a festival.

And also to eventuate that sense of calmness left behind at the campsite when you leave to go into the arena. The fact so much craziness happens when you leave your campsite and when you come back at night it remained the same untouched.
